When the Allow Communications option is ticked after building a Custom Object in the control panel, Communications can be connected to that Object using the Tag Prefix defined. If Allow Communications was not originally selected, it can be activated now and a Tag Prefix can be defined.
Generate a Tag Prefix
This is the code displayed at the end of the Object name on the Object’s profile page. The tag prefix should represent the object but not be too obvious that it will clash with other content in your email subject lines, especially ones that should not sync with the Object. The prefix will include a numerical ID at the end denoting every new instance of that Object.
Once a new instance of an object is created, the prefix and ID will display next to the name of the object.
Add a Tag Prefix to an Email
Add the prefix anywhere within the email subject line. Any replied to emails will also sync to the related object. The prefix can be used as displayed, with the prefix and ID concatenated, or a space can be added in between the prefix and ID.
If an Object has an email address stored in the profile page contact details, a new email can be created with the tag auto-populated within the subject line by clicking on the email address from within the Object’s profile page. This will load a new email in the user’s default email client (e.g. Outlook/Mac mail).
Editing the Prefix
Prefixes can be edited from within the Object’s settings in the control panel.
