This is a custom field which allows tracking the start and end time and duration of activities. The Timer field can be applied to any Module.
Timer fields are an advanced custom field and are added just like standard custom fields via the control panel settings (permissions required to access the Control Panel).
Access the Control Panel via the cog icon in the main menu bar > select the desired Module and then Edit Custom Fields.
Timer fields, and other custom field types, are stored underneath categories.
Use the Add button in the top right of the screen to select a custom field type to add within a category. A combination of similar or different custom field types can be used within each category type. Choose the Timer field option from the Add drop-down.
There is no limitation on how many Timer fields can be applied to a record. An example could be tracking how long a Ticket (a Module) has been open and is left open and running while a second Timer field is used to track how long a development resource has been investigating a reported issue/fault that is Started and Paused as needed.
Once selected, use the Category drop-down to assign that custom field to its respective category. By default, all custom fields are assigned to Uncategorised if one is not assigned.
Label the Timer field to reflect what is being tracked.
If adding a Timer field against the Contact Module, there is an extra option to choose if the field should be assigned to Individuals and/or Organisations.
Using a Timer Field
Add the field by clicking the plus icon in the header of the associated field category. Once added, options to Start or Reset the timer are available and the overall running time is displayed (hh:mm:ss). The Reset button is disabled until a running time has been accrued.
Once the Play button is clicked, it turns into a Pause button and the duration clock starts running. The clock will continue running until the User clicks Pause or Reset.
Clicking the Pause button will pause the running clock, the Reset button will become enabled and a Communication will pop up to record notes or updates from what occurred while the clock was running.
The Communication method will default to Other and the Start Date and Time will reflect the Date and Time the Timer field Play button was pressed and Paused. When there is an associated Contact on the Module, like Contacts and Opportunities, the From Contact will display as the Salpo User and the To Contact will display with the associated Contact name. When there is not an associated Contact, like against custom Modules and Products, the logged in User will display as both the From and To Contact. The User can then update the description box with any necessary comments and will then have to manually select Save to record the action.
If the Communication is not saved, it will not be recorded against the profile page. Not saving a Timer generated Communication and deleting one will not remove the tracked time from the overall duration displayed in the Timer field. This only removes the Communication.
